About Hungry Hollow
Hungry Hollow is a name given by my grandfather to the property where I live. It was a type of country humor, being that money was hard to come by. He and granny put up house here during the depression era. She sold butter and eggs, he cut hair for 10 cents on Sunday afternoons, and both farmed the property. In my early youth I remember there being a question raised concerning the name, by an acquaintance of my father. In response he said, "Well, we were always hungry down here and our pockets were always hollow". Many years have past and things ain't changed much around here. So I figured there couldn't be a more fitting name than the one given by my grandfather.
Ever since I can remember I've always loved art. I used to take the comics from the Sunday paper just to try and draw some of my favorites. There were many times in my life where I let my natural God given ability lay dormant, including a 13 year stretch from my teen years to my late 20's. After such a time where I hadn't drawn so much as a stick figure, it struck me as an impulse to start doodling on the backs of old tickets from where I worked. Much to my surprise and the delight of some of my co-workers my doodles were better than some of the drawings I had done years before. Some of the work seen on my site will reflect different periods of my self tutelage in several different mediums, hope you enjoy looking over a few of the ones that I have done over the past few years. God bless, M. Wilson

This is one of the ones that I doodled on an
old ticket from work . I always wanted to do
a large version of this , but have yet to do
one. The tickets are roughly 5 x 8 in size, I
have maybe thirty more that just jumped
onto the backs of these tickets during our
break or whenever I could find a few
minutes to spare.
The portraits and sketches I do are done in black , white and grey tones on either black or white paper. I work from one of your photos to
create the image. Whether it is a sketch or detailed drawing there is always a rush of giddiness as the subject slowly rises from the
back ground. The pastels on the other hand tend to lunge up from out of nowhere. I am very new to this medium but am very pleased and
excited with it's fluidity and blending ability . I intend to do many more studies in pastel, eventually doing some studies in color.

The photo image reconstruction I do and the resulting image is based on the condition of the photo to be used.
I take the photo and use what is there to try and complete it in the sketch or portrait. I did one of a friends mother that
was a scanned photo of the original. Dingy , torn and missing part of the left side of her face it was the only surviving
picture of my friends mother. The resulting portrait was met with tears and many thanks. In most cases ie; small
tears, stains,or blemishes add $25.00. If the damage is more severe extra charge will be discussed after
assessment of the photo. I look forward to giving you and all my clients something to truly cherish .
Thank you, M . Wilson
~~Below are some examples of the more recent portraits I've done~~
This is an example of a detailed drawing.
Though the portrait as a whole is not
finished in this photo I believe it gives a
good representation of my abilities. Only a
few minor details on the hair and shirt
remain. I used a soft charcoal to achieve
the deep black in the background, the
image was rendered in pencil.
White pastel on black paper. I really like
the dramatic effects created by this
medium. The use of pastels is new to me
but I am very pleased with its workability
A semi - detailed drawing, I left it rough and
unfinished around the edges to give it a feel
of nostalgia. The photo on the wall behind
them is actually the same couple on a
different occasion. I thought it would be a
neat idea and to see if they would catch it.
